LCL Capital Joins GCweb

LCL Capital joins the GCweb community!

LCL Capital Pty Ltd is a non-custodial financial advisory firm which provides services designed to help each client maximise their investments both on domestic and international platforms.

LCL Capital – A Personal Touch:

Oftentimes, in big business, one-on-one contact is limited by fast-tracking procedures and corporate policies. LCL Capital has adopted a more interactive, hands-on approach because while gleaning data from questionnaires is time-efficient, it doesn’t provide the well-rounded picture of a client’s needs an advisor can obtain from a face-to-face meeting. LCL Capital expert advisors, therefore, like to spend enough time with clients to actively assist each one in building the best possible investment strategy.

A Broad Spectrum of Services:

Whether you’re looking for mortgage advice on residential or commercial investments (from purchasing to refinancing), superannuation or life insurance or you’re ready to step onto Platform Trading, LCL Capital is fully equipped to give the financial product advice you require. This includes providing access to both domestic and international investment products. Here are just a few:

·         Domestic and International Shares
Overseas investments have never been as accessible as they are today and considering how small the Australian role plays in the global market, this is a good time to broaden your financial portfolio to include international shares.

·         Futures
Make a commitment to the future of a goods or service or property now, contributing both to the success of the product and to your investment. LCL Capital experts will show you how the Futures market can work for you.

·         Commodities
In economics, a commodity is a marketable item produced to satisfy wants or needs. Economic commodities comprise goods and services.” (Source: Wikipedia) If you’re ready to invest in the Commodities Market, LCL Capital advisors have all the latest up-to-date info you’ll need to make ther smartest investment.

·         Exchange Traded Funds
An exchange-traded fund (ETF) is an investment fund traded on stock exchanges, much like stocks. An ETF holds assets such as stocks… and trades close to its net asset value… Most ETFs track an index… ETFs may be attractive as investments because of their low costs, tax efficiency, and stock-like features. Individually Managed Accounts are accounts specific to the individual investor which utilise an absolute return global macro strategy. The manager uses global equities, foreign exchange, futures and commodity markets to achieve absolute returns. Absolute return products differ from the traditional relative return products in that they are not measured against stock market indices to ascertain performance. The role of the manager is to achieve positive returns in any investment scenario.

Index plus is a long term strategic equity product which utilises the ASX200 Exchange Traded Fund (Ticker STW), sector rotation strategy and timely use of low levels of leverage to achieve investment outcomes that exceed that of the benchmark ASX200 Index.

LCL Capital has partnered with an array of highly reputable, large institutional platform providers across the asset classes. They can arrange a platform that suits your trading style, reporting requirements and most importantly protects your trading funds. The client will contract directly with the platform provider with LCL Capital providing advice and customer service only. As LCL Capital is non custodial by design all client funds will be held by the platform or service provider.

Ordinary People – Extraordinary Ideas

Happened upon this article about an invention called the Water Wheel. No, it’s not the kind of water wheel that is the power source at a mill – instead it is a simple device for carrying water. Carry water you say?

Believe it or not, even in India where computer communities thrive and computer technicians are in high demand, there are places so remote and arid that much needed water has to be hand-carried from the source to the farm. It’s a time-consuming task, usually assigned to the women and young girls and recorded throughout history in pictures of females toting large ceramic pots of water atop their heads.

It got me thinking about two things. First, it’s not that inconceivable to think there might be parts of Australia where getting water from one place to another might also be a necessary daily task and probably a difficult one. When our own state is hit with flooding and rural communities are cut off from the rest of the world, trucks with much needed supplies can’t get through. Some isolated areas still have access to clean creek and pond water but carting it from one place to another is not something for which we necessarily plan ahead. This small invention would bring huge relief to stranded families stuck in this scenario.

Second, it too me back to my school days and studying about inventions. And the lesson there was not so much about each invention itself but that the most impressive, useful inventions throughout history came not from big research centres but from ordinary people – like you and me – who simply had an idea. Got an idea? Write it down! You never know where it might take you!

Below is an excerpt – [click here for the full article from Wello] that sparked this post. It’s today’s proof that ordinary people have extraordinary ideas:

In September 2011, the Wello team arrived in India with the goal of answering one big question:

“How might we improve the experience of collecting, storing, and using water?”

Over the course of the past 15 months, we’ve interviewed over 1500 community members, practitioners and experts, spent countless hours designing and prototyping in the field, and carried hundreds of liters of water.

We developed a wide range of concepts and designs in collaboration with the WaterWheel’s intended users, identified the features that were most important to them, and developed a prototype.

We’re thrilled to introduce you to the WaterWheel 2.0!

Women spend over 25% of their time each day collecting water. With the WaterWheel, they can now transport 50L at once – between 3 and 5 times the amount of water possible as compared to traditional methods: this means MORE water in less time!

The WaterWheel’s cap-in-cap design prevents recontamination at the point of use. The single most effective strategy to reduce incidents of diarrheal disease (the second leading cause of death in children under the age of 5, according to the WHO)

New Domain Names Coming Your Way!

A slew of new Domain Names rivalling  .com will become available on 4 Feb 014

Google alone has applied for over 100 new domain names which include .google .youtube and .lol but other sources have added their touches as well. So we could feasibly find ourselves with sites called .book .wed and .bike.

Arguments for the new top-level domain names are that in only two more years more than one-half of the world’s population will be online and these new domain names will make it easier for site owners to distinguish themselves and their products, potentially broadening their customer bases. If all you need to type in a search window to find a good book source is .book, and every book outlet shares that domain name, it should make search engines behave more efficiently and include more hits without site owners having to jump through hoops to get noticed.

On the other side of the argument is that new top-lev el domain names means the average person will need to remember twice the information about a product or website than they do now. If the name .com is equal to .book or .wed the customer will need to remember if a specific book on weddings they are after is found on the .book or .wed domains, rather than just recalling a subject and automatically knowing it will end in .com

Lots to think about… this is a good read. Enjoy.

If You Can Get Through Monday – the Rest of the Week is a Breeze!

Mondays are hard – especially when someone at work – a co-worker, customer or boss keeps stepping on your last nerve. There’s never enough coffee and no matter how long you stare at it the clock on the wall moves in slow motion, as if deliberately mocking you.And for some unknown reason,  people who are a sandwich shy of a picnic seem to flaunt their stupidness (that’s a word, right?) on Mondays more than any other day of th4e week!

Not to worry. Here’s a list of calming phrases designed to help you navigate a world full of stupid people, mind-numbingly slow clocks and a caffeine shortage so you can make it all the way to Tuesday without a scratch!

Warning: These phrases may or may not be politically correct. Use at your own risk: Oh who cares, they sure feel good!

1. Thank you. We’re all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view.
2. I don’t know what your problem is, but I’ll bet it’s hard to pronounce.
3. I have plenty of talent and vision. I just don’t care.
4. I like you. You remind me of when I was young and stupid.
5. I’m not being rude. You’re just insignificant.
6. I’m already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
7. Ahhh, I see the screw-up fairy has visited us again.
8. It’s a thankless job, but I’ve got a lot of Karma to burn off.
9. Yes, I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
10. I’m really easy to get along with once you people learn to worship me.
11. I’ll try being nicer if you’ll try being smarter.
12. I’m out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.
13. It might look like I’m doing nothing, but at the cellular level I’m really quite busy.
14. I see you’ve set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.
15. Someday, we’ll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Be sure to Like us on Facebook – and tell us in comments which bit of sarcasm was your favourite!

There’s a new way to share Facebook Posts and it’s pretty cool. The new EMBED feature will allow you to easily share a FB post with a plethora of social media including blogs that support FB Embedding and most websites. (This feature had actually been made available previously, but only to certain public figures and pages. Now, finally, everyone can use it)

When embedded on a webpage, posts can include pictures, videos, hash-tags and other content. What makes this super fun is that people can also like, comment and share the post directly from the webpage they are viewing it on.

On the upper left corner confirm the post’s privacy setting is set to public:

Next, Click the arrow in the upper right-hand corner:

Now you can access the drop-down menu – Select EMBED POST:

A separate box will appear above the post with an embedding code:

Copy and paste this code into your status window on FB, or into the body (text) of a website or blog.

Outside of Facebook the post will look like an ordinary image but here’s the beauty of it – the image is actually a real live post with which you can interact – just as though you were in Facebook itself.

Copy and paste this embed code into your Facebook Status window to see how it works:

EMBED CODE for GCweb post

<div id=”fb-root”></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1″; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));</script>

<div data-href=”https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151883305534059&amp;set=a.10150353612009059.372142.242305754058&amp;type=1″><div class=”fb-xfbml-parse-ignore”><a href=”https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151883305534059&amp;set=a.10150353612009059.372142.242305754058&amp;type=1″>Post</a> by <a href=”https://www.facebook.com/gcweb”>GCweb.com.au</a>.</div></div>

The embedded post behaves pretty much the same as a shared post:
Commenting * Viewing comments * Sharing < All of these behaviours remain as before with new windows opening onto the original post’s permalink BUT you will now be able to LIKE the page/post directly, without having to leave your home page or Timeline. Nice!

This interaction SHOULD be available from other social media (wherever the post has been embedded) but it’s such a new feature not all blog sites have access yet.

Again, the FB EMBED feature is brand new and we are still experimenting with it. We’re hoping this will (at least in the near future if not currently) provide businesses with an easier, quicker way to share news, ideas and opportunities with a broader spectrum of customers. But surely just the ability to spot something on Facebook and be able to embed it instantly into a main website or blog is worth this feature’s weight in gold!

FB automatically fits the size of the post/embed to fit the mobile screens – but PC users are not able to reconfigure the size – so the size you see on FB will be the size that goes onto a website or blog. You won’t be able to adjust that, sorry. (Some sites will alter image view to accommodate to page size but clicking on the image will offer a second view, in actual size.)

Also, this isn’t meant to be a work around FB user’s privacy settings. The embed code will only work on FB pages that are set to PUBLIC. That doesn’t – however – affect blogs, websites, Twitter or other available social media.

We’ve already unveiled a time-saving part of this feature: We mentioned above that when you LIKE the page directly from the embedded window, you stay where you are. (As it is now, when you want to LIKE a page, you are jetted out of your feed and then returned to the very top of your feed.)

LIKING a page via the EMBED feature means you don’t leave your page or Timeline at all. So no more scrolling down, down, down, wending your way back to the exact spot you were in your news-feed because… you’re already there!

We predict a lot more people are going to hit that LIKE button and a lot more often!

That’s all we know for sure for now but you can bet we will be playing with this new feature here at GCweb – poking at it, twisting and stretching it in lots of directions to see what works and what doesn’t – so stay tuned there’s more to come!

The New And Improved, Modified, Updated, Expanded, More Detailed, NOW WITH BETTER HAIR Facebook

Every time I see a new update from Facebook about changes they’re making, I see one scene playing over and over in my head:

A smoky room, a dozen or so cracked out programmers and Mark Zuckerberg sitting in the middle of them like some really nerdy, skinny Buddha, hair in crazy corkscrews, pit stains and chain-smoking, shrieking, “Ideas, man!  Ideas!  We need to shake things up!  We haven’t updated or changed anything in 22 days!  Clock’s ticking, let’s go, people!”

And then a programmer’s head explodes and a pixel gets its wings.

Seriously, Facebook, can you stop re-inventing the wheel for a bit?

This video sums up our feelings perfectly.  Tell us what you think:  do you like the constant stream of changes and updates?  Or would you rather have one consistent platform for at least a year at a time?
